The Espy kitchen & function rooms
Melbourne's iconic home of live music has a stunning kitchen and bar area and now truly offers the whole package; great food, reasonable prices, killer location and the same relaxed Espy vibe.
The Espy Kitchen has two levels, with a mezzanine area seating 70 people or 150 standing, a balcony and full length windows looking out over the Esplanade, providing one of the best views of the bay as the sun sets over St Kilda. The Mezzanine also features a huge window overlooking the famous Front Bar stage, which for major events can be opened, literally joining the Mezzanine to the Front Bar vibe.
The Gershwin Room
The Gershwin Room is the former grand dining room of the original Esplanade Hotel. Extensive restoration returned the hallowed stage to its original splendour and majesty, breathing new life into this stunning room.
Time had taken its toll on this Grande Dame of the stage, so The Esplanade Hotel’s owners undertook the massive task of extensively renovating and upgrading the space to once again thrust it under the spot-light as Australia’s premier function room.
From the incredibly elaborate ceiling which has been painstakingly hand-finished, the gold leaf walls and rich, hand-rendered motifs, to the open fireplace, the Gershwin Room is now undoubtedly one of Australia’s most beautiful spaces.

The Basement
The Basement offers a secluded and funky space featuring a sunken pit area as well as a separate off street entrance and self contained facilities.
After being bricked-up and untouched for decades, the Espy Basement was renovated and reopened in 2005. This historic underground bar has been given new life with stunning wall-to-wall 60s psychedelic inspired imagery with the 'pit' area (further underground) featuring crude Russian tattoo artwork from the early 40s. The interior, designed by Christo Gillard has been fitted with a collection of tall church pews in the band area, and comfortable black couching in the pit, Christo opted to keep the floors’ original tiling; a beautiful display of the bar's age.

A 30% deposit must be made to confirm your booking. 2 weeks prior to the event, a further 20% must be paid. On the day of the event, before or during the function, the balance must be paid.
Mezzanine/Basement
For bookings/events with 50 guests or under, a 10% deposit must be made to hold the date of your function. 1 week prior to the event, a further 10% payment must be made. Any bookings exceeding 50 people require an initial 20% deposit to be made. 1 week prior to the event, a further 10% payment must be made. Prior to the commencement of the function, the balance must be paid. This can be done before or during the event.
Entertainment
All rooms have their own stereo system allowing our guests their personal choice of music. If you wish to bring your own iPod/CD’s we are happy to play them for you as background music. Bands and DJ’s are more than welcome to play. Please consult with management before engaging a band larger than a 3 piece. A sound check must be done prior to the commencement of the event. Equipment can only be delivered / collected during times agreed to by the Espy Management.

Please note: the above charges are what you are required to spend on the night of your event. The amount can be spent on food and beverage or beverage alone. It can be spent as a bar
